Hunslet update
Following some excellent earlier work on the cemetery by HistoryDb (Guinea Graves) and Paul Marshall (Old Cemetery Sections) we have now taken a look at Cemetery Ext 1 and are trying to make the layout more easily understandable. PamelaR has been working hard on the First two Con Sections and some grave plot maps have also been created to help identify the graves. (These will be available in PDF format on request very soon.)
Can anyone advise me how to find Plot 11,500 at Hunslet Cemetery. I cannot find a Plot Map, similar to Harehills, anywhere. Thank you.
Hi Denise,
There are lots of sections to Hunslet Cemetery can you give me details of the grave, eg Grave number and Grave occupants.
Regards
Mike.
Mike thank you for getting back to me…
I have been sent a map from the hardworking staff from Leeds Council Bereavement Services so have been able to locate it on that map. Fingers crossed that in the new year I might be lucky in find the actual plot.. Regards Denise
I am really glad that they were able to help.

Hi I am trying to find the above grave, but cannot find a burial plot guide to physically fine it, Can you help. Thanks
Hi Mark,
I have checked our registers, but they only go to the middle 1980’s, you will have to check with the Leeds Bereavement Centre, Farnley Hall, Leeds 12 for more recent burials
They have a website with contact numbers. Sorry I haven’t been much help.

Mike
I recently visited the old woodhouse Hill cemetery in Hunslet to visit my grandparents grave. Although I have always gone straight to it I was so shocked as I couldn’t see it. After looking on find a grave I found the plot number and it took a while counting from the surrounding graves as there were so many missing but I think I have found it. I don’t understand how the cemetery in that particular part has become so bad. The stones look as though they were vandalised. I am hoping in the next few weeks or so to get there and give my grandparents the resting they had before .
I am trying to find a grave in Hunslet cemetery the information I have is:
Ethel Hobson
Plot purchased 4.4.1939
Ext 1 -3A plot no 1506
Memorial ID 226935750
Grave type Consecrated
Is there anyway of getting a map
Hi Alison,
I have replied to you via email
All the best

Hi Debbie,

Hi I am looking for plot 8085..Hunslet Cemetery, where do I find it please.
Hi Simon,
Grave 8085 in the Consecrated section of the Old Cemetery, the grave contains, Alfred and Sarah Ann Benson, also Gertrude Hopper. There is a plot map of the Section that you can download on our website
(HUNSLET OLD CEMETERY Consecrated Section (7528-9458). If you enter the Cemetery through the main gate the “Lodge” is to your right and a “Chapel” is in front. Follow the path to the
right of the chapel and then take a right again along a second path and Grave 8085 is the 11th grave plot on the righthand side. It would probably be useful discovering who are in the graves (8084, 8086)
on either side of yours in case there isn’t a headstone at least you will be able to identify the plot.
All the best
Mike

Mike
Hello,
I am trying to locate the headstone of Tom Norfolk who died in 1941. I know that the plot number is 12196 and that he is buried at Hunslet Cemetery along with possibly two other relatives, Irene Creasser died 1948 and Sarah Esther Drury died 1970. Can you possibly help?
Many thanks
Hi Janette
I have replied by e-mail, I may have forgotton to put a title on the e-mail.
All the best
Mike.
I am looking for where to find the headstone of Stanley and Alma Lord. Alma died in 2007 and Stanley in 1992. I have a memorial number but where exactly in the cemetary would it be?212301820.
Thank you.
Hi Julie,
Our Cemetery records finish c1988 when they became computerised by the Council. I dont recognise the grave number you have posted.
You would probably be best contacting the Leeds Bereavement Services, Farnley Hall, Leeds. They have a website and contact details,
they hold all of the Burial information for Leeds.
Sorry I can’t be of more help.
All the best
Mike
Hi Mike,
I managed to locate the grave from Leeds Bereavement services so thank you. I’m trying to locate where plot 3a 936 would be in Hunslet cemetery. I know where Ext 1 and section 3 is but am struggling to make sense of where in that section it would be. Do you have any advice.
I’m sorry to jump on the back of this post but am hoping to contact Mike Hansell.
Mike, I am not sure of your involvement with Leeds Cemeteries but have just come across this website. I visited Hunslet Cemetery yesterday to visit my parents grave. It was situated in the part over the road from the lodge section. I scoured where the grave was and there is no sign of the grave. The headstone has completely gone. It’s a couple of years since I had been but there was certainly nothing wrong with the grave and headstone, have some of the stones been removed.
Hi Sandra
The only involvement I have with the cemeteries is to photograph the graves and transcribe the registers, I have nothing to do with the council. To obtain information about the grave you will need to contact Leeds Bereavement Services at Farnley Hall, Leeds 12. They have a website with contact numbers. Sorry I can’t be of more help.
All the best
Mike.
